Quest to visit a friend...

I believe traveling is one of those pleasures you need to enjoy while you can... now take a look to what I have to do in November to visit my best friend in Seattle after a working week in Cincinnati, Ohio. (Image is really low-quality, but bear with me... the blue line is within the States, showing the roads I would need to drive if I would like to make this a road trip... of 7500 miles!)

The need to be special

I firmly believe everyone is special, but not everyone looks for their point of specialty and explode it with the same passion and for the same reasons. However, I insist that schools, instead of trying to teach us everything they consider "a cult person must know", should devote more time to help us find not what they believe we are good at, but what we really have passion for.
I took some of my M.Sc. thesis to describe how motivation is the king among the pillars of the organizational improvement. Many go to work every single day with few more than the hope that the day will end soon, with the least undesirable interactions (which, for many, are ALL the interactions they will have, because they hate themselves trying to do a job they feel few to none passion doing).
You can come and develop skills. You can ask many psychologists, sociologists, and even Marcus Buckingham (the author of "Go put your strengths to work" and "Now, discover your strenghts", among many others), and all of them will tell you: you do easier and happier what you are good at.
Then, why aren't we all doing what we want? Did you say money? Well, that's my best approach as well. I am still struggling to understand what political movement can balance the freedom of men and fight poverty with efficiency, but that is not the discussion here. The topic is that many of us are rising stars following dreams from others, and not pursuing our own inventions, at the big price of our happiness and the pride to do what we consider right for humanity. If we are focusing on what really matters the most in our skills set, trust me, no one will be able to deliver something better than you.
Of course, this will NOT happen by accident. Chances are that if you pursue your dream actively, you will find shorter paths to make them real via inter-related work teams with vast and different levels and areas of expertise. What really matters is that you really find people that talks their portion of the dream with the same passion you talk about it.
But... what about the so-demanded revenue? With US close to voting for President again, a very unstable financial forecast in "developed" and "developing" markets as well, the exponential growth in the need for energy and food... "You better stay where you are, if you are one of the lucky guys keeping your job today". And that can be partially right... it takes a lot of courage - same that I admit not having had to even explore if I have it in my DNA - to say: "I want something different, and I am going to pursue it".
Dreamers are quickly knocked down by many doors closing to their projects. And I still believe that you will never appreciate more what you did not have to work to get vs. what your forehead's sweat built for you. Only those that stand up and keep walking (no linkage with the famous comercial ;)) have the right to find what they did wrong and try to remake their steps towards success. All other that surrend to their failures and comfort themselves thinking they did "all they could have possibly done" deserve to fail, because the failure lives in your lack of self-awareness.
You, readers, might be saying: "What is happening with this guy? Does he want to see the world rising or falling?". I definitely want it rising, but moreover, I want a WORLD, not the leftovers unconscious guys allow us to live and try to enjoy. I am not a rebel without cause: my cause is fighting to help kids finding what is really enabling them to succeed in their lives, without being that the elimination of many work places because their thrist to revenue faster than the majority of the world. We, managers in the world, need to open our eyes to the chaotic re-distribution of wealth that is happening in the planet nowadays - just trying to compensate a bit the equation between those that have everything, and those that do not have everything -.
However, this is still a war against the prepared minds, in majority, with certain participation from the empirical knowledgers - which are also very respectable professionals, needless to say -. Economical wars are fought very far from the guy / girl that has more kids than they can really feed. What is more concerning, if the world is increasingly competitive these days, what these "outsiders" have demonstrated me every single day of my life, is that, giving them a base budget for them to participate in this so-called war, will turn them into poverty once again.
This is like "Energy preservation principle", from the great master Einstein. Seems that you need much more people taking right decisions to fight poverty vs. what you have today... at least in the current markets.
And this is the point - the one delivered with luxurious details in "The Blue Ocean Strategy", by Chan and Mauborgne -. For you to win, you do not need to be a small fish in a tank full of sharks. Maybe you just need to be a fish in your own place, far from the threaten of the sharks. They have no real need to eat you, but will never hesitate doing it if you allow them to reach you.
And blue oceans fairly often derive in new dreams made truth, creating employees for many that can share your vision and your passion, and in the end, giving you and them the so precious revenue we all want to get free from but few really can. We are SO MANY in this world, that almost every idea is liked by many.
Try Facebooking your concept with a brand new group you circulate for "fans" to join it... you will be AMAZED how much you can learn from others that will think you are crazy, stupid, lazy or any combination of the previous, but you will learn as well how to structure potential markets around people that think more or less like you, at least in small parts of their minds... the part where your dream can raise your kids, give you a comfortable home, and good money to help others in ways no one has done before.
I dream... with so many things that listing them will take a while. I begin to dream with a world where we have much less violence and fear from bullies and abused respectively. We do no need that. I believe all we need is following Ghandi's words one more time, every day, in every action: "You must be the change you want to see in the world".
I hope many of you can, sooner or later, use another famous quote from Ghandi, especially for the best of the human race "If being this insignificant I made all this, imagine what you all guys can do together". Get social, get real, get passionate... each day one step closer to your dreams and vision.

Por qué no seguir votando por Chávez? (anónimo)

No se quien lo escribió... me llegó por mail, y si bien pudiera mejorarse en algunos puntos, me gustaría que al menos el 60% de los que se dicen Chavistas pudieran llegar algún día al menos a pensar asi. 1.- Votaré por Chávez cuando vaya a Japón y la mayoría de sus productos digan 'Made In Venezuela'; eso si sería revolución. 2.- Votaré por Chávez cuando en vez de salir a gritar Oligarcas! tenga mi propia empresa de exportación de productos venezolanos para EEUU y vaya a mi trabajo en un vehículo 100% venezolano; esto si sería revolución. 3.- Votaré por Chávez cuando en vez de salir a gritar ¡Golpistas! ningún Fiscal, Policía, Guardia Nacional o funcionario público me matraquee, porque el sueldo miserable que tienen no les alcanzan para mantener a su familia o su Status Quo. Queremos una revolución para que todos seamos iguales de revolucionarios progresistas. Eso si sería revolución. 13.- Votaré por Chávez cuando no tenga que hacer una cola para poder esperar una ración de comida en las casas de alimentación, mientras lo revolucionarios como Lina Ron y Freddy Bernal van al 'Lee Hamilton Steak House' a discutir las 'acciones de calle'. Si los dirigentes Chavistas y los seis millones de chapistas que votaron por el NO hagan que sus dirigentes y gobernantes logren esto en Venezuela, estoy plenamente seguro, 'camarada', de que no habrá necesidad de elecciones mas nunca en Venezuela, Porque ¿Para qué salir de una revolución así? Pero si tú, Chavista, te das cuenta de que no vamos hacia esto, CARAMBA, reflexiona... o vas a seguir soñando como sueña desde hace 40 años el pueblo de Cuba, por una revolución que nunca les ha llegado?. Olvídate del Che Guevara compadre, ese no da para vivir, ni educa a tus hijos ni te da porvenir; esas tonterías del pasado. Quiero vivir en la Republica (Bolivariana) de Venezuela como un Rey y no como un gafo babeándome con las bellezas y las ciudades de otros países, viendo televisión, mientras miro por la ventana de mi apartamento a lo lejos, los barrios donde viven muchos ¡¡Revolucionarios!... La violencia y el hampa no están desatadas por falta de polícias, sino por falta de valores

La gente no debería necesitar de otros más que de su familia y de su escuela para aprender qué está bien y qué está mal. Pretendemos decir que la sociedad venezolana está mal, y que es culpa de los políticos, siendo cierto que desde el momento en que hemos decidido que nuestros hijos se van a criar y educar por y con los hijos de los demás, y que no vamos a hacer nada para cambiar eso para mejor, es ahí cuando una manzana podrida bastará para dañar a muchas buenas que se dejen influenciar.

Si queremos realmente mejorar como sociedad y como planeta, gente... votemos por más y mejor educación, así haya menos policías. Necesitamos más gente amable y menos escoria, y lamentablemente, muchos no se dieron cuenta suficientemente temprano de que era así como para promover los cambios adecuados. Ante la imposibilidad de un borrón y cuenta nueva, tendremos que movernos lentamente al progreso. Un arma por un pupitre y útiles escolares... algo así sueño yo con ver.

Al menos quince personas aledañas a mi han sido objeto del hampa en los últimos 15 días. Ya pasamos de ser la sociedad en la que uno, clase media-baja, media o media-alta, no estaba realmente bombardeado de la realidad que pintan los periódicos (hasta el punto en que algunos desubicados se preguntan si en verdad esa es la misma Caracas en la que ellos viven) a la sociedad del dolor y del irrespeto ajeno. Me da muchísima lástima por este pueblo si quiere seguir equivocándose... es obligatorio dejar de ser idiotas (bien empleada la palabra... invitados todos a revisar el contenido de ésta página donde se relata brevemente de dónde viene), y meterse en la política. Miren cuántos humanos lo han dado todo y más por sus congéneres: realmente pocos, y muchos menos los que realmente han sido reconocidos por tal acción. Esto quiere decir que cada quien vela en principio por el bien personal y el de los suyos - y los políticos no son la diferencia. Si no intervenimos para que eso no pase, sumando la falta de valores de muchos de quienes ocupan dichos puestos, el resultado es tan nefasto como lo que hemos visto por muchos años en Venezuela.

Por eso, y aunque lamento haberme tenido que ir de mi país, mañana agarro un avión y me devuelvo a Venezuela a votar... es INACEPTABLE tener un derecho a cambiar las cosas y simplemente no involucrarse lo mínimo indispensable para tomar decisiones concientes por el bien personal y del colectivo.

Unos tienen y no pueden, otros pueden y no tienen... y los que tienen y pueden a veces lo desprecian!

Absolutamente lamentable la noticia con la que me topé esta mañana en la prensa nacional de Venezuela. A ver si ayudar a difundir la información, junto con penas que vayan millones de veces por encima de la moral de este tipo de seres, ayudan a que este tipo de historias se acaben... Qué asco!

"Secuestro y asesinato de niño de 11 meses indigna a Colombia

04:00 PM Bogotá.- El secuestro y posterior asesinato de un niño de 11 meses, un crimen que organizó el propio padre de la víctima para evitar pagar una cuota de manutención, causó el martes conmoción y rabia en Colombia, un país acostumbrado a la degradación de la violencia, dijo Reuters.

El hallazgo del cuerpo del niño, envuelto en una bolsa, se produjo en un sector despoblado del municipio de Chía, 30 kilómetros al norte de Bogotá, y provocó una marcha de protesta en esa población, además del rechazo de dirigentes del país.

El presidente Alvaro Uribe, visiblemente conmovido, lamentó el crimen, mientras que el fiscal general, Mario Iguarán, pidió una pena de 60 años de cárcel para los responsables.

"A esta hiena (el padre del niño) la imputación de la Fiscalía, la acusación, la solicitud de condena máxima de 60 años, es no sólo por secuestro, él es coautor del homicidio de su propio hijo", dijo Iguarán a periodistas.

Los noticieros de los canales privados de televisión, que habían emprendido una campaña por la liberación de Luis Santiago Lozano, secuestrado el jueves por encapuchados de la casa de su madre, dedicaron sus emisiones a cubrir la muerte del niño y la protesta que originó el crimen en su pueblo.

El caso tomó un giró dramático el fin de semana cuando el padre del niño, Orlando Pelayo, confesó que pagó 250 dólares a una mujer para que lo desapareciera y evitar una cuota de manutención debido a que no convivía con la madre del menor.

"Es muy difícil encontrar palabras para referirse a esta atrocidad. Ojalá los colombianos podamos unir todas nuestras conciencias, nuestra manera de proceder para exigir todos en nuestro comportamiento de cada minuto, el respeto a los derechos de los niños, el respeto a la vida de los niños", dijo Uribe.

En el 2007 se registraron casi 2.000 casos de maltrato a niños menores de 4 años, en Colombia, país de 44 millones de habitantes, según estadísticas oficiales."
